Myrtillius Kauria

Myrtillius Kauria is a self-taught visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland, who works with jewellery, clay and animation. Kauria makes jewellery by hand knotting on burlap. In a departure from traditional subjects, he depicts social themes, mainly the everyday life of poor and marginalised people with its associated details. Despite their sombre content, the ryijis are in many ways hilarious and the characters are even a little absurd. Kauria is interested in caricature as a means of expression in textile art.
