Oiro Pena - Béke

The six compositions are strongly rooted in spiritual jazz and folk music traditions – the Finnish language is a natural part of this combination. From melancholy songs singing about the longing for freedom to a cover version of “Motherless Child”, Oiro Pena moves seamlessly between the beautiful wild lyricism of Pharoah Sanders and melancholic Nordic folk jazz. All the members of the band seem to know what they have to do in each moment, and the different ups and downs of the music are navigated with appropriate power and emotion. (Ultraääni Records)
